Bringing together some of New England’s leading communications professionals, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, NESHCo, NHHA and Yankee Chapter PRSA are hosting a half-day workshop that will help small businesses and non-profits as well as institutions and organizations of all sizes build their brand using social media and deal with a crisis in an always on socially connected world.

Hosted by Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., on Wednesday, July 27 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the session will share communications strategies and techniques to build a social media presence and respond to a crisis in a social media world.

Dawn Fernald is the director of marketing and public relations for Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. Dawn has been in healthcare marketing and planning arena for almost 20 years. With a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of Maine and an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University, she offers expertise, creativity and versatility in an ever changing media and marketing environment. Prior to joining Wentworth-Douglass in early 2014, she held positions as the director of marketing, communications and new service development for York Hospital in southern Maine and advertising manager for Thomson Newspapers. She offers proven expertise in public affairs, crisis communication, community relations, marketing strategy, branding, value proposition and designing care around the consumer experience.


Matthew Chagnon

Matthew J. Chagnon, Senior Social Media Strategist, Eversource Energy
Matt Chagnon oversees social media strategy for Eversource Energy (formerly Northeast Utilities and its operating companies, including PSNH). Eversource has been at the forefront of electric utilities using social media and has been widely recognized for these efforts during several major storm restorations.

Following a 2012 merger and last year’s significant rebranding, Matt has been focused on organizing Eversource’s many social media accounts and the cross-functional team that uses them. Matt has worked to expand 24/7 coverage of social media to all of Eversource across New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut.

At PSNH, Matt developed his interest in video production, which coincided with the advent of social media sites like YouTube and Vimeo. Their growth and popularity has given him the opportunity to create dozens of videos for the company’s projects and initiatives. As a result, video has become an essential tool for community engagement and an integral part of the company’s social media strategy.

Matt is also a photographer and web designer. He grew up in New Hampshire and graduated from Juniata College (Huntingdon, Pennsylvania). He became interested in digital media while teaching in China, where he wrote his first travel blog.

Robin Schell, APR, Fellow PRSA is senior counsel and partner for Jackson Jackson & Wagner, a behavioral public relations and management consulting firm serving a national base of clients. Robin’s specialties include issue anticipation and crisis communication programs, employee communications, community relationship-building, behavioral research & strategic planning. The firm’s clients range from nonprofit organizations to Fortune 50 companies to government entities.

Robin is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and has served in many capacities for that organization, including past president of the Yankee Chapter of PRSA, Environmental Section chair, National Membership co-chair and assembly delegate. She is also involved in the Educational Initiatives Committee of the College of Fellows. She has presented at the national conferences of PRSA, the New England Society of Healthcare Communicators (NESHCO), NSPRA (National School Public Relations Association), the Department of Veterans Affairs, APPA (American Public Power Association) and the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA). She has served as an adjunct professor at the University of New Hampshire and the University of South Carolina and is a contributing editor to Public Relations Practices: Managerial Case Studies & Problems (8th edition) by Allen Center, Patrick Jackson, Stacey Smith and Frank Stansberry. She has also served as chair of the communications & trust advisory panel for Brookhaven National Laboratory and is currently the chair of the committee of visitors for the Department of Energy’s Office of Science Communications. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Robin is an active member of the UNH Alumni Association. Her volunteer activities include work for the Main Street Congregational Church, LUNGSTRONG (a nonprofit organization that raises funds for innovative lung cancer research) and the Readers are Leaders program through the Amesbury Rotary.
