PR entrepreneurs are skilled at navigating the communications business through uncharted terrain…skillfully managing in uncertainty. Whether you are happily employed by a company or organization or are considering starting your own agency or freelancing, this session is for you. Learn from our panel of experts about the skills, tools, and tips it takes to manage a practice independently. Are there things you could be doing now to prepare for a solo career? Are there entrepreneurial approaches you can apply to your current office job?
Our panel of experts will share tips, personal experiences and best practices on everything from building a client roster to managing administrative tasks on your own.

Tammy L. Boucher is the president and founder of Boucher Public Relations, LLC. Tammy has more than 20 years of experience in marketing and communications. She began her career as a reporter before becoming a strategic communications specialist more than 15 years ago.
Tammy has designed and implemented communications programs that have garnered extensive local and national awards. Tammy was also personally recognized as one of the state’s “40 Under Forty,” an annual selection and listing of distinguished statewide leaders. She was selected as the June 2007 Emerging Young Entrepreneur (EYE) Award winner and also received the Business Excellence Award from New Hampshire Business Review for Excellence in Media and Marketing.
Laurie J. Storey-Manseau is principal of StoreyManseau LLC Marketing, Public Relations and Communications. The award-winning marketing firm provides counsel and support for a variety of companies and organizations in marketing strategy, public relations, advertising, social media, marketing communications, graphic and website design, media relations, crisis communications and advocacy communications.
A graduate of Syracuse University, Storey-Manseau began her career as a journalist, working as a reporter for the Syracuse Herald Journal/Herald American and the Boston Globe. She also was editor of Adirondack Life Magazine. Storey-Manseau earned her master’s degree in English from the University of New Hampshire. Previous to starting her own firm, Storey-Manseau held senior management marketing and communications positions in health-care organizations, including Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Elliot Hospital and Optima Health.
For nearly 25 years, Matt Cookson has held senior-level positions in the private sector, state and federal government, and higher education. The majority of his work has been in the area of strategic communications and he has expertise in public relations, corporate communications, web and publications, marketing, business development, event management, government relations, and strategic planning.
In 2010, he launched his own strategic communications firm, Cookson Stephens Corporation. Located in downtown Manchester, the firm services several major accounts in the higher education, manufacturing, technology, and nonprofit sectors. The firm also handles all aspects of managing the NH High Technology Council and Cookson also serves as executive director of the Council.
From 2005-2010, he served as Associate Vice Chancellor for External Relations at the University System of New Hampshire, directing communications and outreach efforts for the System office, Board of Trustees and Chancellor. The University System is now a client and he continues to provide communications services to the University System.
Jim Burke is the Founder and Creative Director at Burke Advertising, LLC. Burke Advertising was formed in 1994 as a full-service agency and has since added complete video production capabilities. Since 1994 the agency has developed regional and national consumer and B to B marketing campaigns. Jim has worked with clients that have represented most major marketing categories including automobile, higher education, medical, political as well concert promotion.
Jim began his career in advertising over twenty years ago with one of Inc. Magazines Top 500 Fastest Growing Companies.
He has served on three Presidential campaigns and most recently as the Chairman for John McCain’s New Hampshire Business Leaders Committee. During that time Jim also served on the national advance team coordinating town hall meetings and appearances across the country for Senator McCain.
Jim is also the Executive Producer of the television program Sports Legends New England with Bob Lobel and Jack Heath. Currently in its second season, Sports Legends New England has interviewed over thirty of the region’s most beloved Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Patriots players. Jim developed season one into a DVD that was launched on Amazon.com in December.
