The Value of Building An Engaged & Involved Workforce Before The Crisis Strikes: Delta Air Lines Shares Strategies On Its COVID Vaccine Campaign

Event Start Date:
January 19, 2022
Event End Date:
January 19, 2022
Event Venue:
Virtual

Wednesday, January 19 at 4 p.m.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines has achieved a high employee vaccination rate – nearly 95% – without implementing a mandate. The company’s ability to reach such a high vaccination rate voluntarily stems from a COVID safety campaign that began in 2020, with each effort building on the next.

Hear how Delta approached this challenge, which so many organizations are facing right now, through a combination of education efforts, incentive programs and a healthcare surcharge for unvaccinated employees – and how they have cultivated employee engagement and loyalty over time as an important foundation to their success.

Gina Pesko Laughlin is Managing Director and Head of Global Employee Communication at Delta Air Lines. She leads a team responsible for all aspects of the company’s internal communications. Her Corporate Communications career includes media relations, executive communication, crisis response and employee communications. She also spent time leading employee engagement and business programs as a leader on Delta’s HR and In-Flight Service teams. Laughlin is a graduate of Syracuse University and served as the National President of PRSSA during her college career.

Event Venue:
Virtual

Thursday, February 17, 3 – 4:30 p.m.

More than ever, reputation is the currency of the realm. But how is reputation created? Reputation is not claimed–it is bestowed by the people and organizations that rely on it to meet their needs or to make them successful. It is earned over time through consistency in actions, quality in products, services, and solutions that unite to consistently earn the trust of stakeholders. This class will provide an overview and framework of the factors that lead to an organization, and its people, being viewed as excelling in reputation. The class will review a case study.

Instructor: Clark Dumont, M.S., APR, is a C-Suite Communications leader in FORTUNE 500 companies spanning the Health Care, Aerospace & Defense, and Hospitality & Entertainment sectors. In 2018, he formed Dumont Communications to share his experience and insights in Reputation and sustainable organizational success. He also has extensive leadership experience in the non-profit sector and academic sectors. He started his journalism career at radio stations in Manchester, Keene, and Rochester before practicing corporate and organizational communications.

Co-hosted with the Nackey S. Loeb School of Communications.

Beyond COVID-19 – Issue Anticipation for 2022

The Yankee Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America will host an online workshop via Zoom webinar entitled: Beyond COVID-19 – Issue Anticipation for 2022, on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 9:30 a.m.

Join the partners of Jackson Jackson & Wagner, Stacey Smith, APR, Fellow PRSA and Robin Schell, APR, Fellow PRSA, as they share JJ&W’s model for issue anticipation and facilitate a discussion with panelists representing a variety of industries on “what’s next” for their organizations in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While none of us have a crystal ball, part of our value as public relations practitioners is the ability to anticipate issues that can impact our organizations – sometimes to be response-ready in the event of a crisis, and other times, to proactively seize opportunities that present themselves based on the environment in which we are now operating.
Speakers include:

  • Vanessa Stafford, Director of Communications, NH Hospital Association
  • Jayme Simões, President, Louis Karno & Co.
  • Rosalynne Whitaker-Heck, Ed.D., APR, Professor and Associate Provost, Champlain College, Burlington, VT

Yankee Chapter members are invited to stay on the call after the panel discussion to attend the 2021 YPRSA Annual Meeting.

The fee is $10 for PRSA members and $15 for Not-Yet Members.

The Yankee Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America represents public relations and communications professionals in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
